OAFL Growth Workshop

Please pass this on to the appropriate members of your clubs. This email is to announce that the OAFL will be holding a Growth and Strategy Session on Saturday, February 9th, 2008.

The details of this event are in the attached flyer. In essence, we wish to hold a league-wide get-together, where we can discuss how we want this league to grow in the future and the best way to make it happen. With the grant from Trillium (and the hope of future grants), now is the time to make sure that the OAFL grows into the league that we want. I know from personal experience that many of you have ideas/expectations/plans about how the OAFL should be run and what its focus should be.

This is the perfect opportunity to come and have your say and be a part of the planning to help the OAFL grow and be sustainable. No votes; no bylaw changes; no pressure; let's just sit around and talk some footy and think about the long-term direction of the OAFL.

If there are any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact myself, Bryan Wells, Bruce Parker, or Al Will (contact info on the flyer). Hope to see you all there.

Cheers,

Dave Wells OAFL Trillium Coordinator

The Ontario Australian Football League ("OAFL") is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Dan Walker as the League's Marketing and Development Officer on a full time basis effective immediately. Based in Toronto, Dan will be working out of OAFL/AFL Canada’s Toronto office in downtown Toronto. As Marketing and Development officer, Dan will be responsible for the league's day to day football operation along with developing the league's sponsorship, recruitment, membership and junior development programs. A key part of his responsibilities will be to increase the league's image and awareness as well as promote the game of Australian Rule's Football in the Greater Toronto Area.

In addition to his OAFL duties, Dan will work directly with the administration and coaching staff at Northwind, Canada's National Australian Rules Football Team, as it prepares for the International Cup to be held in Melbourne August 2008. Walker's appointment is fully funded by Ironbark International Limited, an Ontario Football League sponsor. Dan joins the OAFL after a successful year in Victoria's GVFL where he played for Mansfield and was the club's leading goal scorer for 2006, before moving to the OAFL where in 2007 he won the league goal kicking award. Speaking after his appointment was made official Mr. Walker made the following comment "I am excited about this opportunity and I look forward to working with the OAFL and its member clubs along with the Canadian National Australia Rules Football Team.
