Roos Workin Hard Preseason
Saturday, 1st March 2008
The OAFL season is still 8 weeks away and while some of the other clubs in the competition are still to awake from their winter cave of hibernation the Etobicoke Kangaroos continue to stretch their legs under the watchful eye of new coach Emile Studham. Deep in the bowels of the University of Toronto Sports Dome, Studham quietly takes his charges thru their paces in preparation for the start of their 6th OAFL campaign.
The new and old "Roos" at the club have noticed a difference in coaching approach from the last 2 years where the iron fisted former coaching of Greg Everett was never quite good enough to get his boys up in the big finals games. Studham takes the boys inch by inch thru skills and drills like a new parent assisting his young son's in their first steps toward walking or even manhood. It sure to make an impression to many after the hard approach that failed over the previous 2 years.
The month of March takes on a new look as the team moves up a step from training 1 night a week to 2 nights with a continued emphasis on skill acquisition and fitness.
With the annual turnover in player personel each week taking on a new look the team that finished the 2007 season following the Grand Final loss to the Toronto Eagles will certainly have a different look and feel about it when round 1 on May 11th rolls around.
An influx of new Australians have arrived in town along with a couple of Canadians, and with the 2007 rookies now with a 1 year of playing experience this will put continued pressure on the stalwarts at the club where hunger for playing time will help cull the herd as the weeks go by.
